Walnut Sharks Swim Team

The Walnut Sharks Swim Team is designed for children ages 6 to 17 who are interested in swimming competitively. The team offers both conditioning programs and a competitive swim program. 

The primary goal of the Sharks Swim Team is to help children develop the necessary swimming skills for competitive events in a fun, supportive, and family-friendly environment. The team aims to ignite a passion for swimming and provide a foundation for future water-related interests.

Programs Offered: 

  • Fall and Spring Conditioning Programs: Prepare swimmers for the Summer Swim Team Season.
    • Duration: 6-8 weeks
    • Includes an Intra-squad swim meet held on a Saturday
    • Practices may vary depending on the availability of the Walnut High School pool
  • Summer Swim Team:
    • Duration: 7 weeks
    • Includes multiple swim meets throughout the summer. Including the SCMAF San Gabriel Valley meet on July 26 in the City of La Verne and SCMAF Championship meet on August 9 in the City of Santa Clarita.
    • Practices are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. -9:00 a.m. depending on the level. 

New Swimmer Tryouts 

New swimmers must attend a tryout to ensure they meet the minimum skill requirements for the Mako level. The tryouts assess the following abilities: 

  • Swim 50 yards of Freestyle without stopping 

  • Swim 25 yards of Backstroke 

  • Swim 25 yards of Breaststroke 

  • Swim 25 yards of Butterfly 

After the tryout swimmers will be notified whether they make the team within the week.  

Fall Conditioning 2025

Sharks Swim Team begins fall conditioning on September 22 to November 5, 2025. Registration for Swimmers who swam Summer 2025 can register now in person at the Walnut Gymnasium and Teen Center. 

Practices

All levels Makos, Great White and Megalodons from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

New Swimmer Tryouts

After tryouts coaches will notify you if your child makes the team by September 17. Due to time limitations and pool availability, we are limited to the number of swimmers we can have at each level.

Swimmers will need to complete the following tasks to be considered for the team.

  • Makos- Must be able to swim 50 yards of Freestyle and 25 yards of Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly.

  • Great White - Must be able to swim 100 yards of Freestyle and 50 yards of Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly.

  • Megalodons - Must be able to swim 150 yards of Freestyle and 50 yards of Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly.
